This dear scene illustrates that May is the month of Our Lady. Traditionally Catholics will crown Mary Queen during May. The girls in this picture have gathered flowers and are making garlands to decorate a picture of Mary, making a shrine for her and crowning her Queen of their home.
We don't know what the artist's intentions were, but we can't help but think of the Martin family when we look at this warm-hearted depiction. The happy Catholic family, the five girls, the littlest one reminding us of St. Therese.
Joan Brull i Vinyoles (1863-1912, also Juan Brull Viñolas) was a famous painter from Barcelona. He studied in Paris and painted with a dreamy style, often doing painterly illustrations that hover between Impressionism and Symbolism. This is our favorite of his works, along with two other Catholic-themed paintings which we are also quite fond of, another Month de Maria and a beautiful Christmas picture.
- 8.5 x 11" or 11x14" acid-free paper - Archival pigments, rated to last for generations. - Cardboard backer - Above story of the art - Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
** IMPORTANT ** There is a border of about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the 8.5x11 picture, or an inch-and-two-thirds of white space around the 11x14" picture, so the image is smaller than the paper. It gives the framed picture a matted look
